Local Man Accused Of Murder In The Death Of Missing Jogger

Quake Lewellyn of Newport was arrested and charged yesterday with Capital
Murder following the death of Sydney Claire Sutherland, a Tuckerman native.
Sutherland, 25, was reported missing on Wednesday after jogging along State
Highway 18 between Newport and Grubbs near County Road 41 around 3:00 P.M.
Lewellyn comes from three generations of family farmers. His family owns and
operates Lewellyn Farms in Newport, which Quake is an assistant. The Lewellyn's
were awarded with the 2016 Jackson County Farm Family of the Year. They have
5,800 acres in Craighead, Independence, Jackson and Poinsett counties. They
raise rice, soybeans and wheat.
Around 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, Sutherland was seen on camera at a friend's
house before jogging near her home on State Highway 18.
Family, friends, volunteers, Arkansas Department of Corrections search dogs and
a Arkansas State Police helicopter spent Thursday and Friday searching the area
for Sutherland.
Sutherland’s cell phone was located about a quarter-mile from her home and Highway 67.
Jackson County Sheriff David Lucas said a body of a female, believed to be Sutherland,
was found around 2:00 P.M. yesterday. The body will be sent to the Arkansas State
Crime Lab in Little Rock for identification.

Lewellyn, 28, is currently being held at the Jackson County Jail. No word yet on bond
for Lewellyn.
