U.S. Department of Agriculture lifts Academy Fruit Company's Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act sanction

Late last year, Academy Fruit Company LLC was sanctioned for not
paying $104,195 to a California seller. The USDA put Perishable
Agricultural Commodities Act sanctions on the Clovis based business.
According the USDA, The Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act
(PACA) was enacted at the request of the fruit and vegetable industry to promote fair trade in the industry. PACA protects businesses dealing
in fresh and frozen fruits and vegetables by establishing and enforcing
a code of fair business practices and by helping companies resolve
business disputes.

Academy Fruit Company LLC has now satisfied a reparation order in
the amount of $104,195 involving unpaid produce transactions. The
USDA has uplifted the sanctions and the company can continue
operating in the produce industry upon applying for and being
issued a PACA license. Company president Jayson Scarborough can be
employed by and affiliated with any PACA licensee, according to a
USDA press release.
