This all started when the 18 year old defensive lineman was called for unsportsmanlike conduct.
He was called for roughing the passer after a play was called dead and for exchanging words
with game officials.

Duron was escorted out of the stadium by Edinburg CISD police while the referee was being
evaluated in an ambulance for concussion symptoms. Referee Fred Gracia is said to be in
good condition at this time.

Edinburg High won the game 35-21 in the District 31-6A playoffs but the district has since
removed them from the playoffs as a result of Duron's actions, according to Edinburg
Consolidated Independent School District.

In a written statement to media outlets, the school district wrote:

"The district has decided to remove the Edinburg High School football team from the
playoffs after an unexpected incident involving a student that occurred during a football
game on December 3, 2020. We extend a sincere apology to the referee and his family. On
behalf of the Edinburg CISD Board of Trustees and administration, we apologize to the
athletes, staff, and our school community.

"We will take the appropriate disciplinary action once we understand the facts and
circumstances underlining this incident. The district takes these matters very seriously;
however, we cannot comment further on a pending investigation."

Duron was charged with Class A misdemeanor assault on Friday morning during an
arraignment at the Edinburg Municipal Court, according the The Monitor. He has since
posted a $10,000 bond, according to jail records.

Duron was named the District 31-6A Defensive Player of the Year last season, and he also
served as the Edinburg High's kicker and punter.
The Texas Association of Sports Officials has started their own investigation into the
matter. Executive Director Michael Fitch released the following statement:
